TURTLE EGGS FULL OF HUMAN PROMISE

Human beings kill me. Yeah, some of them MIGHT kill me. But let’s not even go there. I mean, sometimes human beings are adorable, precious, touching! There’s a photo in the LA Times today of five volunteers in lime green tee shirts (from Alabama’s SharetheBeach organization) all huddled around a “nest” of sea turtle eggs.

With their bright blue latex gloves, they are digging the eggs out of the sand VERY CAREFULLY, even marking the tops so that when they are relocated to a western Florida beach, they will be in the exact same positions. In the midst of all the damage and destruction and violence we perpetrate, I find this huddle of caring for the eggs of another species a hopeful sign that humans may yet care for each other.
